Colour and gesture in Florentine art
From 9 October 2026 to 7 February 2027, Scuderie del Quirinale presents an exhibition devoted to Jacopo Carrucci, known as Pontormo. His work belongs to the transition from the High Renaissance to Mannerism in 16th-century Florence. Colour, gesture and unusual spatial arrangements transform familiar subjects.

For a Rome visitor, this is a sustained encounter with Florentine painting. Works on paper and paintings allow different aspects of the artist’s practice to be compared. The exhibition suits both longstanding admirers and visitors who know a few images but want to understand the development behind them.
Bringing the works together
The Visitation from the Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Carmignano is a central work. It is joined by loans from the Uffizi and other public and private collections. A largely chronological route includes thematic sections, allowing individual pictures to be seen within a broader development.
Curated by Cristina Acidini, the project is promoted by Ales–Scuderie del Quirinale with Gallerie degli Uffizi and Electa. Our editorial suggestion is to choose several works that hold your attention, compare their gestures and colours, then return to the exhibition’s overall progression. There is no need to turn the visit into a checklist.
The venue is Via XXIV Maggio 16. The exhibition is already open on the review date and continues through winter. Check the official hours and tickets, especially for holidays. Once the day is chosen, leave enough room for entry and an unhurried visit.

Planning the journey
A trip from your hotel to the chosen venue starts at your actual accommodation address. Arrival at Fiumicino (FCO) or Ciampino (CIA), followed by travel to your accommodation, is a separate part of the journey. To discuss an event transfer, contact Hola Taxi with your chosen date, venue, departure address and passenger count. Discuss the return journey separately once your plans are clear.
