Dalí and Fashion: Surrealism meets the wardrobe

Dalí e la Moda is open at Palazzo Reale until 31 January 2027. Explore more than 200 works connecting fashion and Surrealism, and plan your visit in Milan.

Event dates: —

Milan offers an unexpected way to discover Dalí: through clothes, jewellery, photographs and collaborations with fashion houses. Dalí e la Moda is already open at Palazzo Reale and continues until 31 January 2027. It is a compelling visit if you are curious about how art moves beyond a painting into clothing, magazine imagery and public life.

The exhibition brings together more than 200 works and documents. Paintings and drawings appear alongside dresses, films, jewellery and archive materials. You can trace Dalí’s relationships with Schiaparelli, Chanel, Dior and Rabanne, as well as Gala’s role in creating their shared visual world.

What to look for in the galleries

The route is arranged in six themed rooms. Titles such as The Wardrobe, Performing Fashion and Dalí and Fashion Now suggest different ways of viewing the exhibits: as garments, as part of a performed identity and as sources for fashion today. It is an opportunity to compare materials and forms, return to small details and recognise familiar motifs in unfamiliar objects.

Lenders include the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, USA, and the Reina Sofía, alongside historic fashion-house archives. The official gallery previews André Caillet’s photograph of Gala in Schiaparelli’s celebrated shoe-hat and The Eye of Time jewel. Looking at a few works beforehand can help you decide where to linger.
