Souk Madinat Jumeirah: canalside walks and an Arabian market

Discover Souk Madinat Jumeirah’s Arabian market, canals, souvenirs and Burj Al Arab views. Ideas for a walk and travel from your hotel.

Visit Souk Madinat Jumeirah to walk among canals and Arabian-style buildings, browse shops and stay for dinner. Part of the Madinat Jumeirah complex, it connects shopping lanes with open waterfront spaces. Burj Al Arab's famous silhouette is visible from some restaurants and viewpoints.

You can spend an evening here without a detailed sightseeing plan: choose a souvenir, look at the market's details, have coffee and walk beside the canals. It suits a couple's walk or an evening with friends combining attractive urban views with a restaurant.

What to see in the souk

Inside are shopping lanes beneath decorative lanterns and carved wooden features. The operator highlights spices, jewellery and goods by local craftspeople. Choose a small gift from your trip or simply browse; the setting is worth looking at without buying anything.

Souk Madinat draws on the image of a traditional Arabian market, but it is a modern shopping and restaurant complex. For historic residential architecture, visit Al Fahidi. Here, the emphasis is on walking, shops and canals.

Where to linger by the water

After the shopping lanes, head towards the canals. Here you can understand the layout, watch abra boats and choose a place for lunch or dinner.

There are many restaurants and cafés serving different cuisines. Visit Dubai highlights Taverna Greek Kitchen beside the canal and Maria Bonita for Mexican food, for example. If a particular view matters, ask when choosing a restaurant: not every table overlooks Burj Al Arab.

For a relaxed evening, choose a restaurant first and walk before or after dinner. For photography, start with the canals and views of the complex, then explore the shopping lanes. These are two ways to discover the same place.

Before your visit

For this walk, your destination is specifically Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Neighbouring hotels and Burj Al Arab are separate properties with their own visitor rules. Check your chosen restaurant's website for opening hours and reservations.

The complex has different levels: the shopping area and the waterside Promenade. The operator identifies lifts between them. If anyone in your group finds long walks or stairs difficult, check an accessible route in advance and discuss it with the complex.

A transfer for a walk or dinner

For an evening out, discuss travel from your hotel to Souk Madinat Jumeirah and back with Hola Taxi. Include the date, passenger numbers and dinner time if already chosen. Plan the return after your meal so the group can leave together.
