At Dubai Aquarium, you can walk through a transparent tunnel while sharks, rays and shoals of fish swim around you. Located inside Dubai Mall, it combines easily with a walk around Downtown Dubai. It offers a change from city views to underwater life without leaving the centre.
There is more to a visit than the tunnel. Underwater Zoo introduces other aquatic and land animals, while separate programmes let you learn more about them with staff. When choosing a ticket, decide whether you want a straightforward walk through the displays or a closer introduction to their inhabitants.

What to see
The main tank holds 10 million litres of water. Its 48-metre tunnel lets you observe animals from below and beside them, a different perspective from a conventional aquarium window. Pause to watch rays and sharks move and try to identify different fish species.
Underwater Zoo is on another floor of the mall. Its displays are divided into Rainforest, Rocky Shore and Living Ocean, from tropical habitats to coasts and the ocean. The operator highlights crocodiles King Jock and Queen Missy among its familiar inhabitants; the website also describes penguins and otters.
With children, build your visit around simple questions: how do different animals swim or move, and which live near water? You do not need to make every stop a lesson; watching the animals can be the day's main experience in itself.
Choosing a ticket
The website offers different visit packages and extra activities, such as a glass-bottom boat ride and animal encounters. These are not automatically included in every ticket. Compare inclusions on the operator's page, especially if a child wants a particular display or activity.
For a first visit, we suggest starting with the tunnel and Underwater Zoo, then choosing extras according to interests and participation rules. Check age requirements for a specific programme before buying.

What to add to your day
Aquarium Tunnel is on Dubai Mall's Ground Level; Underwater Zoo is on Level 2. You can have lunch in the mall and leave time for shopping. For a city panorama, At the Top at Burj Khalifa is nearby, but you need to arrange that visit separately.
Avoid packing the day too tightly with young children. Sometimes the aquarium, lunch and a walk are enough; a second major attraction can wait for another day. For outdoor animal watching, compare Dubai Safari Park.
From your hotel to Downtown
You can discuss a trip to Dubai Mall and back to your hotel with Hola Taxi. Say whether you are only visiting the aquarium or want to stay in Downtown until the evening. This helps you arrange travel around your day without rushing a family outing.
