Spartan World Championship turns Al Wathba Desert into a setting for obstacle racing. From 19 to 22 November 2026, international championship competitors and amateurs choosing their own challenge will gather here. The appeal lies in combining running over dunes with tackling obstacles: a different experience from a city road race.
From the shorter Sprint to Beast
The organiser's programme includes Sprint over 5 km with 20 obstacles, Super over 10 km with 25 and Beast over 21 km with 30. Children's races and a team relay are also announced. Different people in a travelling group can find their own role: some compete, others support friends, while families can consider the separate children's programme.
Distinguish championship races from the available amateur formats. Some competitions have qualification requirements, so check the conditions for your chosen category before registering. Start with the format that suits you and the organiser's rules, then choose the day and your wider travel plan.
Before travelling to Al Wathba
The venue is in Al Wathba Desert in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Plan the desert trip separately from sightseeing in the city. Check the current venue layout and information for your particular race. When discussing the journey, specify the Spartan venue and your competition day.
Talk through the participant's programme and the plans of those accompanying them. If one person is competing in Beast while everyone else comes to cheer, your plans for the day may differ considerably. Leave free time rather than scheduling a compulsory excursion immediately after the race, and agree on the return in advance. Check spectator attendance conditions separately from an athlete's registration.
Discussing the transfer

You can discuss travel from an Abu Dhabi hotel or Dubai and the return, taking account of the athlete's and companions' plans. Describe any sports equipment in your enquiry.
