Paris, youth and love in Puccini’s opera
La bohème follows young people for whom art, friendship and love matter more than material comfort. At its heart are the poet Rodolfo and Mimì. Their relationship grows among Parisian garrets, cold and hardship, where a small act of kindness becomes precious. This is an evening for anyone interested in a human story as much as a familiar title from the opera repertoire.

For the 2026–2027 season, the Liceu presents Paolo Gavazzeni and Piero Maranghi’s production from Teatro Regio di Torino, with Giacomo Sagripanti as music director. Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica based the libretto on Henri Murger’s Scènes de la vie de bohème. Four scenes carry the characters from their first encounters towards loss, while keeping their everyday world in view.
What gives the evening its character
Puccini brings the tenderness of the love story together with the lively world of friends and city life. Mimì and Rodolfo’s relationship matters, but so do the young artists’ laughter, arguments and efforts to get by. If you are choosing a first opera at the Liceu, its clear emotional story may be a useful starting point. That is an editorial suggestion: your own interest in music and drama should guide the choice.
The announced casts include Pretty Yende, Ermonela Jaho, Pene Pati, Freddie De Tommaso, Roberto Alagna and Kang Wang. Performers change between dates. Choose your evening alongside its cast list; these names do not all appear together in one performance.

Dates and your journey
Performances are scheduled for 30 December 2026 and 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18 and 19 January 2027. On 3 January the theatre holds a special LiceUnder 35 evening. Check its age conditions, the starting time and your chosen cast on the official Liceu page before buying.
The theatre is at La Rambla 51–59. Decide where you will travel from and how you would like to return after the opera. You can discuss a transfer with Hola Taxi, giving the date, pickup address and theatre. A trip from your hotel to the opera and an arrival journey from BCN Barcelona–El Prat are separate stages. Discuss the return separately once you know the end time of your chosen performance.
